Volunteer & Student Information

You must be willing to undergo a Criminal Record Search, have a T.B. test, secure a medical assessment form of good health, and sign an Oath of Confidentiality.

Prerequisites:

Volunteers and students are subject to the following to be successful in their position.

  • Criminal Record Search
  • Recent Tuberculosis Test
  • Medical Reference of Good Health
  • Oath of Confidentiality

Volunteers and students are subject to the following to be successful in their position.

  • Criminal Record Search (Form: AiMHi pays/ reimburses for successful CRC)
  • Recent Tuberculosis Test (Completed and paid for by applicant at local travel health clinics or public health nurse)
    1. Northern Interior Health Unit https://www.northernhealth.ca/OurServices/Facilities.aspx?FacilityID=48 – $40 per test and at cost of applicant
    2. Northern Travel Vaccination Clinic http://www.ntvc.ca/ – $50 per test and at cost of applicant
    3. Northern BC Travel and Vacation Clinic – Ph: 250-562-6363 – $50 per test and at cost of applicant
  • Pre-Placement Health Evaluation form completed with Physician and at cost of applicant
  • Oath of Confidentiality (Form: Review and completed by applicant)

Once the prerequisites have been completed, AiMHi will match the Volunteers/Students with the home(s) that are best suited to their qualifications and experience.

Reference Checks:

AiMHi requires at least one (1) reference name, that we can contact, or reference letter that we can verify what is on your application, for all Volunteers/Students.

Orientations:

  • Volunteers/Students will receive an orientation to the home(s) that best suits them.
  • Volunteers/Students will not be left alone.

Evaluations:

Volunteers/Students will be given and asked for feedback, and will be asked to participate in an exit interview when they leave.

Advance Notice:

AiMHi needs at least two (2) months notice when a student applies for a practicum to ensure that the reference checks and the prerequisites are completed before the start of the practicum/work experience.

Contracts or criteria regarding a student’s practicum need to be forwarded to AiMHi before the start of the practicum.
